Independence Day 2025

Aninha Educational Institute of Higher Secondary in Science & Arts commemorated Indian Independence Day with a solemn and spirited programme on campus. The celebration brought together students, faculty, and alumni to honour India’s journey of freedom and renew our shared commitment to responsible citizenship.

Chief Guest: Ms. Cheryl Alphonso

Note: Our Principal, Rev. Fr. Diogo M. Fernandes, was unable to attend due to illness; he sent his best wishes to the Aninha community.

Ceremony Highlights

  • Flag Hoisting & National Anthem: The Tricolour was hoisted with pride, followed by a stirring rendition of the National Anthem.

  • Cultural Expressions: Students presented patriotic songs, dance performances, and a short skit on milestones of the freedom movement.

  • Independence Day Quiz: The Social Science Club hosted a quiz on the Constitution, national symbols, and India’s scientific and artistic heritage.

Chief Guest Address — “Freedom as Responsibility”

Delivering the keynote, Mrs. Cheryl Alphonso (a lawyer) invited students to see freedom not as a one-time gift but as an everyday responsibility to be nurtured and passed on. Drawing from her legal experience, she emphasised the values that animate our democracy: justice, equality, liberty, and dignity.

Key points from her address:

  • Guard precious freedoms: Rights are hard-won and can be taken for granted—protect them through daily actions.

  • Students are the next generation: Your dreams will shape the nation; your integrity will determine its strength.

  • Duty to country: Whatever path you choose—science, arts, entrepreneurship, law—never forget your duty to your country.

  • Character in action: Be honest, courageous, and compassionate. True freedom uplifts others and speaks for the voiceless.

  • Meaning of the Tricolour: It is not just a flag; it stands for sacrifice, unity, and hope—do not let hatred, division, or apathy dishonour it.

  • A pledge beyond words: Love your country not only in speech, but in service and action.

Looking Ahead

Independence Day at Aninha is both remembrance and mission. In the coming term, we will deepen civic learning through community projects, project-based learning across science and arts, and initiatives where technology and humanity work together for the common good.

Jai Hind.
